PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spindle motor for rotating an optical disc stably, uniformly and smoothly by reducing the cogging torque of a motor without using a special member or assembling method, and to provide an optical disc drive mechanism employing that spindle motor. SOLUTION: The spindle motor has an attraction magnet on which even number of P2 magnetic poles are formed at an equal pitch, and an attraction member on which S2 discontinuous portions are formed oppositely to the attraction magnet at an equal pitch angle wherein the P2 is a number of least common multiple of the P1 and S1 excepting L, the product of the P2 and S2 is equal to the L, and the attraction magnet and the attraction member are arranged such that the variation in torque generated in the attraction magnet and attraction member is shifted by 360/L (degree) from the variation in torque generated in a rotor magnet and a stator.
