<p>The protection system for a storage tank (6) containing dangerous chemicals, liquid gas etc. includes a concrete ring (8) around the outside, its height being less than that of the tank. Inside this ring, the tank, and a protective outer tank (5) are mounted on a rigid platform made of steel structural members or reinforced concrete, supported by sets of resilient pads (12). The bottom of the concrete ring (8) is connected by tie bars (14) all round the outside to a thick base plate (1) supported by spacers on the ground. The tie bars are sloping, so as to oppose tangential forces, secured by brackets (15) at each end to the ring and base plate. The resilient pads rest on a flexible sheet (9) which extends outwards to be gripped between the concrete ring and a resilient ring (10) below, supported on the base plate. The first rigid platform projects beyond the outer tank, and is secured to it by vertical straps.</p> |
