SiO2 sand mixed with an aq. org. polymer soln. and water glass is shaped into foundry. Thus, a mold made from SiO2 sand 100, aq. soln. contg. 40% styrene-maleic acid copolymer Na salt 3, and water glass 5 parts had compressive strength of 15 and 40 kg/cm2 after 2 and 24 hr, resp. Cast iron was poured into the mold at 1350oC. After cooling the shakeout was easily made by hammering.
