<p>The method of protecting personnel from the harmful effects of arcing produced from high voltage switchgear can form part of an explosion protection system. In an opening (27) through a wall between the chambers containing the personnel and the switchgear is a grid (13) formed by a fixed shutter (13) and a moving shutter (12) with slots through one which can be covered by parts of the other member when a magnetic control device (14) is operated by an arc intensity monitoring device. An alternative shutter system has three shutter sections, and springs attached to the sections can control their travel. The lower edges can fit into a channel across the bottom of the opening. Another design has circular shutter sections which are rotated about a central axis, whilst another design has a fan shaped set of openings through a tilting plate, which swing about an axis at one end.</p> |
