PURPOSE:To bring into an actual measurement in a short time and to enable a reliable measurement, by a method wherein an upper and a lower detector are mounted at a side of a rising pipe branching from a main pipe connecting together a header tank and an internal combustion engine, and a fuel return pipe is branched at a location positioned at a slightly higher level than that of the upper detector. CONSTITUTION:A rising pipe 8 is branched at a downstream side of a valve 12 of a main pipe 6 connecting together a header tank 2 and an internal combustion engine 7, and an upper detector 10 and a lower detector 11 are installed at a side thereof. A fuel return pipe 13 is branched at an upper location positioned at a slight distance h away from the upper detector 10 of the rising pipe 8, and is connected to an underground tank 14. During the normal operation, a part of fuel passes through the fuel return pipe 13 from the rising pipe 8 and is caused to return to the underground tank 14. In the case of measurement during which a valve 12 is closed, a liquid level in the rising pipe 18 positions at the level of the fuel return pipe 13, and after the fuel in a short distance h is consumed, it is brought into an actual measurement state in a short period of time. Additionally, a liquid level is kept in a less flactuation and a leliable measurement can be performed. |
