The support rail for a car roof rack is for a car without side gutters. It has profiled sections (2) to fit over the reinforcing ribs (8) along each side of the roof profile. The top of each section has tags (10) at each end to secure the roof rack frame (14) as well as securing the clamps (12) which bolt to fittings in the roof profile. The sections spread the load of the rack onto the roof, with elastic pads (16) to prevent scratching. The securing clamps fit into prepared recesses in the roof and are secured using threaded inserts.
