<p>A hollow knitting needle, for hand-knitting, of fabric having an un-looped yarn laid-in along the courses, the laid-in yarn being fed along the centre of the needle to an eye in the side of the needle just behind the tapered point, has a flexible tubular extension attached to the end of the needle, whose outside diameter is less than that of the needle, and which has a coefft. of friction which is not more than 60% greater than that of the rigid needle, pref. 20-60% greater. The needle consists pref. of chromium-plated brass, and the tubular extension of transparent plastic material pref. clear PVC, on which may be marked a measuring scale. The needle facilitates the knitting of large panels without being so unwieldy as to reduce the knitting speed.
