Panels of cellular thermal insulation matl. are made with undercut borders on two adjacent edges and relieved borders on the other two edges, so that such panels may be mounted side by side with partially overlapping joints. For such panels moulded from pre-expanded polystyrene beads, a two-stage heat treatment is used to produce panels of which the core of the panel is less rigid than the surface layers. Used for panels for cladding structures exposed to significant thermal differentials or swings. The overlapping panel borders conceal gaps which may arise between the interfacial base layer of the panels and could form thermal bridges. The panels are more tolerant of differential movements between the opposite faces of the panels than panels which are rigid throughout. |
