<p>Case consists of two flat cups; and at least one cup is provided on both its internal and external surfaces with an electroless- or electro- plated metal coating; the two coatings are connected by a metal bridge. The metal bridge pref. consists of a hole in the polymer cup, the hole being filled with metal during the coating process to make a seal impenetrable by liq. The cup is pref. provided with a conducting surface by being coated in a known way with a material which is exposed to UV light to form metal nuclei on the polymer; and the plating is then applied to the metal nuclei. The hole in the cup is pref. obtd. by a laser or electron beam. Used e.g. with Ag20-Zn button cells used to drive miniature motors etc., where a metal cell case is replaced by two polymer cups easily joined together by ultrasonic welding to make a seal. Rational mass prodn. is obtd. while avoiding leakage of the electrolyte in the cell.</p> |
