There are disclosed a compound having the following formula: in which R<1> denotes an aromatic group; Z represents a group (wherein R<2> denotes hydrogen, a salt forming cation or a protective group for carboxylic acid, and R<3> denotes hydrogen or a residue of a nucleophilic compound); and X<1> and X<2> each represent hydrogen or a halogen atom, provided that both X<1> and X<2> cannot represent hydrogen at the same time; processes for preparing the same; and an intermediate compound useful for preparing the same. The above mentioned compound has a broad antibacterial spectrum and shows strong antibacterial activities against not only gram-positive bacteria but also the gram-negative bacteria, particularly the resistive gram-negative bacteria.
