MANUFACTURE OF COPPER BODIES Copper bodies are made by the following sequence of steps: (i) The ore is crushed and if necessary concentrated by a flotation process; (ii) The prepared ore is oxidised by a hydrometallurgical technique to generate a solution containing copper cations and substantially free of sulphide anions; (iii) The copper cations are reduced without extracting them into a different solution (though they may if desired be concentrated or even crystallised out as a salt) to form a deposit of copper particles; (iv) The particles are substantially freed from deleterious surface impurities; and (v) The heat-treated copper particles are fed as such to a friction-actuated extrusion machine and extruded by that machine to form a coherent product. |
