<p>Gas-permeable membranes and a blood oxygenator contg. such membranes are claimed. The membranes comprise an open-pore reinforcing support with a coherent film (2-5 microns thick) of silicone rubber partially filling the pores of the support to a depth sufficient for secure adhesion of the film to the support.. The oxygenator can be used as an "artificial lung" in extracorporeal blood circulation systems, e.g. for supporting respiration in cases of pulmonary insufficiency. The membranes are of rigid construction and have a greater gas permeability per unit area than prior art membranes.</p> |
