PURPOSE:To make the size of a disk driver FDD small, and to reduce the sensor number, by outputting a status detection signal corresponding to a predetermined status detection object based on each signal corresponding to each detection mark. CONSTITUTION:A sensor 33 detects each mark provided on a hub 30 of a disk 17 to be driven. A discrimination circuit 34 discriminates a detection signal from the sensor 33 to output signals A-C corresponding to each status detection object. The signal A is given to an index output circuit 35 to output an index pulse IP in response to the signal A. The signal B is given to a disk identification circuit 36 to output signals B1, B2 identifying the recording density of the disk based on the signal B. Moreover, the signal C is given to a write protect output circuit 37 to output a write protect signal in response to the signal C. The number of sensors is reduced by the device of said constitution and the disk drive FDD is miniaturized.
