The mechanism is intended for feeding cut grass, lucerne etc (2) onto a moving endless belt (1), e.g. of a drying unit, from a supply (3) via an intermediate conveyor (4) which drops the material onto the belt (1). In the path between the conveyor and the drier belt, are provided controls (5-9) for the amount or weight of material passing to the belt. They switch-off the conveyor when this amount exceeds the rate at which the belt can move it, the conveyor capacity being greater than that of the drier belt. The controls may comprise a pivoted (6) platform (5) with a counter-weight (8) capable of operating a switch (9) controlling the conveyor.
