1442578 Surface treatment of polymers SULZER BROS Ltd 6 Aug 1974 [8 Aug 1973] 34588/74 Heading C3P The surface sulphonation of aliphatic polymers is effected by first evacuating the space adjacent to the surface, then admitting sulphur trioxide vapour and finally neutralizing the sulphonated surface, e.g. with gaseous ammonia. Excess sulphur trioxide is preferably removed before the neutralization, e.g. by evacuation, being recovered for reuse by freezing out. Polymers mentioned are of ethylene, propylene, isobutylene, methyl pentene and vinyl chloride, and chlorinated polypropylene or polyethylene. |
