The storage and sales display container for portions of food, is shaped as a flanged dish (10) with its open top sealed by a protective layer (12,14). This layer is a double layer, with an anti-condensation film (14) covered by an outer film (12) which is gastight and which may carry printed information. Before sealing, the container is filled with an inert gas preventing deformation of the container during cold storage. The double layer is then welded all round the flanges of the container. When ready for display, the gastight layer can be removed by a tongue (16) at one end. The lower layer, which is porous, allows air to reoxygenate the contents.
