<p>The instrument is rendered insensitive to acceleration independent of fluid movement by placing compensating strain gauges inside the spherical element support tube. The device comprises a hollow sphere attached to a base by a hollow tube. A shaft is located in the tube and is fixed to the base. Strain gauges, attached to the base of the tube, detect strain produced due to fluid. Other strain gauges, fixed to the base of the shaft, detect acceleration forces applied to the instrument and include inclination forces. The output from the gauges are used to determine wind speed and direction corrected for instrument inclination and acceleration.</p> |
