<p>A container (10) of plastics material has a neck (11) on which a separately manufactured gripping ring (12) of, for example, plastics or cardboard is provided, the gripping ring having an opening which is dimensioned such that the gripping ring may be fixed to the neck (11) and retained by lugs (15, 16) or projecting rings on the neck which abut the gripping ring. The gripping ring may be shrunk on, and is attached either to a blank which is subsequently blow moulded to form the container, or to the already- moulded container.
