The drain for rainwater or other conduit through which water flows, has a grid with vertical bars across its inlet opening to prevent entry of debris. A perforated plate (6) is lowered in front of the grid to collect the debris and is lifted for removal of the collected debris. This plate is guided by a frame during the operation. The plate also carries a roller (22) at each end of its lower edge. This edge incorporates a line of teeth (16) which fit into the spaces between the bars of the grid. These two rollers each have collars around them which also fit between the bars. The proportions of the roller are selected to ensure that the teeth do not damage the structure and are not worn against the bars.
