The invention relates to a broadband communication system in which frequency-modulated signals are transmitted in frequency-division multiplex via an optical wave guide (AL), in which arrangement the optical wave guide (AL) can lead, in particular, from a central station to a subscriber connection (T). In such a system, a plurality of, for example, 20 sound program signals is transmitted together with a number of, for example, 3 video program signals, the sound program signals being modulated with a frequency deviation exceeding the maximum modulation frequency by about 1 to 2 orders of magnitude, for example by a factor of 20, for increasing the signal/noise ratio at the receiving end despite a low transmission level. The frequency deviation of the video program signals can also be greater than usual; it can exceed the maximum modulation frequency by about twice up to 1/2 orders of magnitude. The video program signals (Pv) can be conveyed to the respective optical wave guide (AL) via a broadband switching arrangement (BK) with frequency-channel-individual switching levels (KE1...KE3); the sound program signals (Ph) can be continuously connected to the optical wave guides (AL). <IMAGE> |
