<p>Gasoline compositions comprise a major proportion of a hydrocarbon fuel of gasoline boiling range and, as a detergent additive, 0.0001-1.5 wt. per cent of a branched-chain alkyl primary amine of formula <FORM:1066562/C4-C5/1> where R1 is a C1-3 straight-chain alkyl group, R2 is a C5-22 straight-chain alkyl group, and R1 and R2 together contain a total of 8-23 carbon atoms. The amines are usually added to the gasoline in the form of a concentrate in a solvent, e.g. an aromatic hydrocarbon, an alcohol, or a mixture thereof, and the final compositions may also contain antiknock agents, e.g. TML or TEL, and a light mineral lubricating oil, e.g. petroleum spray oil.ALSO:A mixture of olefines containing 15-20 carbon atoms is hydrochlorinated to give a mixture of 2-, 3- and 4-chloroalkanes, which is then reacted with an excess of ammonia to give the corresponding mixture of primary amines.</p> |
