On the outside wall of a reactor vessel (1) is at least one jacket (10) provided with an inlet and outlet for a fluid employed to heat or cool reactor (1). The outer wall of each jacket (10) is parallel with the wall of vessel (1); and each jacket contains a baffle (17), which is fixed to one wall, and rests elastically on the other wall. Baffles (17) pref. consist of a helix or spiral made of thin strip, which may be fixed to ring ribs welded to the wall of vessel (1) inside jacket (10). The overall result is the efficient heating or cooling of vessel (1).
