The pipe junction incorporates a drum-type setting member with one or more seals. The seals are similar to the brake lining in a drum brake (17,18), and are mounted on a rotary setting mechanism (7) in the junction casing. The mechanism moves them in the radial direction. It can comprise a pneumatic ram with a piston, as used with a motor vehicle brake. The pressure is exerted on the seals via levers, having a shaft protruding from the casing, while the ram can be double-acting. The bore through it can be formed by two lengths of pipe (19,20) leaving a gap between their ends covered by an elastic sleeve (22).
