<p>The runner is for a water turbine or hydraulic pump, and it is coupled by a shaft to a generator, motor or engine. The shaft is sealed off from the water handled above the runner by a shaft seal. The section of the shaft (3) exposed to the water handled at least is of stainless steel, and is joined to the runner (1) by welding. The runner and this shaft section can be a single casting, while beyond the seal, (8), the shaft can be flanged (5) to a shaft extension (7) from the generator etc. Alternatively a stub-shaft (2) can be formed on the runner, and welded to the stainless-steel shaft.</p> |
