Hemi-spherical reflective nodules (E) are applied to a durable layer (S) form a retro-reflective traffic regulating highway surface marking, being aligned and placed in rows perpendicular to impinging light. The three stage process comprises placing a durable skid resistant marking layer (S), aligning the nodules in rows, and finally placing the rows at specified intervals. The longitudinal interval (DP) may be such that the shadows formed by grazing light between two rows cover greater areas than those illuminated, nodule height being not less than 0.9 mm, and transverse and longitudinal nodule spacing being not more 5 and 12 times nodule dia. respectively. Nodules may be applied by a hollow grooved rotating (22) with locating apertures (24) subjected to alternating negative and positive air pressures. |
