The non-return valve is for a medium under high pressure, having a housing (1,2) containing a generally cylindrical chamber (3) with inlet and outlet ports (6,7) in the opposite end walls (3,4). The valve plug is a circular plate (8), moved in the chamber by pressure differences in a direction perpendicular to the plane of a seat (12) round the inlet port (6). The chamber can be formed by a tubular body (11) fitted in the housing, and which has a transverse wall (13) roughly halfway along it. Round this wall are a number of lengthwise passages (14), running to one end of the body.
