1,112,353. Shaft position encoders. LITTON INDUSTRIES Inc. 4 May, 1966 [4 May, 1965], No. 19795/66. Heading G4H. Two coded scales 26, 34 are driven at different speeds and are sensed by brush blocks 46, 44, provision being made for adjusting the relative angular positions of the brush blocks 46, 44 without having to dismantle or disconnect the encoder. High speed disc 26 and cylindrical member 17 are press-fits on shaft 16, member 17 having a recess containing a planet gear 20 which rotates about shaft 18 and meshes with a fixed gear 12 and a gear 14 formed on a sleeve freely rotatable about shaft 16 and carrying the low-speed disc 34. Gear 12 has 33 teeth and gear 14 has 32 teeth thereby providing a <SP>1</SP>/ 32 speed reduction between discs 26, 34. Relative rotation of the brush blocks 46, 44 is achieved by rotating mounting ring 38 with respect to housing 10. In the embodiment shown, end cap 50 is secured to housing 10 by cover 64, and mounting ring 38 threadably engages screws 40 which pass through elongated slots 42 in cap 50. In another embodiment, the slots 42 are provided in mounting ring 38 and screws 40 threadably engage housing 10. |
