Apparatus for use in a vehicle comprises means (1) for periodically detecting the distance travelled by the vehicle, means (2) for periodically detecting the bearing taken by the vehicle, signal processing means (3) for arithmetically obtaining a current location of the vehicle, in terms of two- dimensional coordinates at intervals, using signals from the means (1, 2) means (4) for storing data regarding such locations means (5) for displaying the path of travel of the vehicle in accordance with the data stored in the storage means, and operating means (6), for controlling the display. The apparatus provides a visual indication of the location of the vehicle by way of a continuous path of travel. This enables a ready comparison to be made with a preselected road pattern on the display at a current point of inspection. In this way, ambiguities in the visual display of the current location of the vehicle are minimised. <IMAGE> |
