<p>Synthetic base stocks for jet engine lubricating oils comprises a blend of(a) pentaerythritol material completely esterified with straight chain 4-10C alkanoic acids, and (b) a trimellitate ester (acid esterified with 4-13C alkanol), where wt. ratio (b) : (a) is 1:10 to 1:1. stabilising additives may be included. base stock has initial viscosity 5-5.5 cS at 210 degrees F and 13000 cS at -40 degrees F. Also it does not freeze when held at -40 degrees F for 72 hrs. Compsns. also avoid stability difficulties and costs of prior art use of branched acids in pentaerythritol esters.</p> |
