<p>Process and plant installation are for anaerobic fermentation of liq. manure. The fermentation takes place in a horizontal, cylindrical vessel contg. an axial, rotary shaft fitted with agitator paddle blades. The level of manure inside the vessel allows the blades to emerge above the surface as they approach the top of the vessel. The vessel is of the type which has a flow controlled inlet at one end, a flow controlled outlet at the opposite end, a gas outlet from the vessel headspace, exterior thermal insulation and internal heater(s). The blades are designed to agitate the whole of the liq. contents of the vessel. The agitation does not advance axially different strata of manure at different speeds, this ensures that all the manudre is manure is digested to an equal degree. Pref. each agitator blade has a partial area in a plane at right angles to its direction of motion, and another partial area angled to push the manure towards the inlet end. This reverse push opposes progression of the manure except when overcome by feed pump pressure. Used in prodn. of fuel gas from liq. manure which is simultaneously deodorised for use as agricultural fertiliser. All the raw material is completely digested which ensures that the fertiliser is fully deodorised. Fermentation is not retarded by mixing incoming liq. manure with partly fermented material. In achieving these objectives the new digester remains inexpensive, compact and uncomplicated.</p> |
