PURPOSE:To highly accurately and speedily measure the plating quantity on an alloyed zinc-plated steel plate by applying gamma-rays to an alloyed zinc-plated steel plate heated by passing through a heat treatment furnace, and comparing the characteristic X-ray intensities measured by the wavelength nondispersing method with the known relation of the intensities to the plating quantity. CONSTITUTION:To measure the alloy layer of a zinc-plated steel plate 1, which has been provided with the Zn-Fe alloy layer on heating; gamma-rays are applied from a R1 ray source 2 to the surface of the alloy-plated steel plate 1, and the characteristic X-ray intensities of Zn and Fe are simultaneously measured by the wavelength nondispersing method in which no spectral crystal is used but a detector 3 electrically selects the desired energies of a plurality of elements. The characteristic X-ray intensities are sent to a counting unit 4, and an arithmetric unit 5 compares the characteristic X-ray intensities received by the counting unit 4 with the known relation of the intensities to the plating quantity to obtain the plating quantity. Thus, the plating quantity is speedily and accurately measured at the in-line or out-line of a manufacturing equipment to control the manufacturing conditions. Therefore, higher efficiency and higher yield are attained in manufacturing. |
