A locknut comprising a threaded bore 19 and an even number of generally flat side walls 11 to 16 is provided on each alternate side wall with a pair of indentations 21, 121 each having a V-shaped cross-section, the turns of the thread in regions 31 being deformed radially inwards due to the formation of the indentations 21, 121. The locknut may be provided with a frusto-conical crown portion 17 and each indented generally flat side wall 11, 13, 15 may be slightly concave whereas each non-indented generally flat side wall 12, 14, 16 may be slightly convex. |
