The appts. has a HF current generator providing a cutting and/or coagulation current. This is supplied at predetermined intervals, with the duration of these intervals as well as the length of the pauses between them being preselected. Pref. the appts. has two rotary switches (1,2) which are used respectively to select the intensity of the cutting current and the coagulation current, with a dual push-button switch (3) used to select either or both of these currents. Two further rotary switches (4,5) respectively control the duration of the pulse intervals and the pauses between them, with a second dual push-button switch (6) for selection of individual pulses or a pulse series.
