The retaining device for a shelf (1) located between the rear seats and a movable panel (4) able to rotate relative the vehicle comprises a shelf articulation (6) to the panel. A flexible support fixed to the shelf and to the vehicle slides through a loop fixed to the panel. The shelf comprises a principal shelf (13) and a skirt (14) along a rigid fold line (15). The skirt has a hole (18) and the movable panel has a hook (17) which engages the hole to form the complete coupling and articulation.
