Accelerating pump for IC engine - has connection to fuel operated injector for permanent flushing to avoid vapour locking

The carburettor (1) has an accelerating pump (2) with a plunger worked by a linkage from the throttle (7). It draws fuel through a non return valve from the float chamber (4) and discharges it through another non return valve into the carburettor inlet (5). A pump (10) delivers fuel from a tank (9) through a pressure regulating valve (8) to the float chamber needle valve. The return connection (13) from the pressure regulating valve passes through the jet of an injector (14). The suction inlet (16) of the injector is connected (17) through a non return valve (18) to the chamber (3) of the accelerating pump. The pump is thus regularly flushed to avoid vapour formation.
