MACHINE FOR MANUFACTURING PAIRS OF TIGHTS WITH RESPECTIVE GUSSETS

A machine is disclosed for manufacturing pairs of tights with gussets utilizing for each pair of tights two separate preformed tubular hose parts and a respective gusset portion. The machine comprises a plurality of gripping and manipulating facilities each of which includes a pair of units each unit in turn comprising two arms pivotally connected at their one ends and carrying at their other ends, in cantilevered fashion, respective fixed jaws and associated movable jaws. Each unit may be folded about the pivotal connection between its arms to swing the fixed jaws adjacent one another so that, with the movable jaws swung away a respective tubular hose part may be slipped over the closely adjoining fixed jaws and, after clamping by means of the movable jaws may be slit longitudinally between the two portions gripped between said jaws and the respective units moved back to unfolded positions so that projecting marginal portions of the severed regions of the two hose parts are overlapped one with the other and with projecting marginal portions of a rhombic shaped gusset, the overlapping marginal portions being thereafter united by sewing.
