1,149,817. Chain tensioning devices. O. WINKLHOFER AND G. WINKLHOFER, [trading as JOH. WINKLHOFER & SOHNE K.G.]. 12 Oct., 1967 [13 Oct., 1966], No. 46594/67. Heading F2Q. A chain tensioner and lubricator for an I.C engine cam-shaft drive chain comprises a chain-engaging member 86 (Fig. 3) or 124 (Fig. 4) slidably supported on a base member 80 or 120, conduits 106, 96, 90 (Fig. 3) or 126, 146 (Fig. 4) in the members to convey lubricant to the chain, and a chamber 104 or 152 between the members pressurized with lubricant supplied via a non-return valve 100 or 134 to assist a spring 98 or 136 acting between the members to urge the chain-engaging member into tensioning engagement with the chain and to act as an hydraulic ratchet to retain the chainengaging member against movement away from the chain. In Fig. 3, lubricant reaches the valve 100 and the conduit 106 from an inlet gallery 102, and the base member 80 is screwthreaded at 108 for mounting in a fixed member. In Fig. 4, the non-return valve comprises a ring 134 seating on a sleeve 132 and a flange 128 of a tube 126 having feet 130 secured to the base member. A chain-engaging shoe 144 is secured to the member 124. In Figs. 1, 2 (not shown) lubricant is supplied to inlets in the end face of the base member remote from the chain-engaging member. In Fig. 1, the tensioning spring (26) is external to the members. |
