The winch drives its rope by friction. The rope may be reeved round one or more driven pulleys, against which it is pressed by spring-mounted rollers. The rollers (4,5) are coupled to the pulley drive mechanism, and driven at a peripheral speed faster than that of the rope on the outgoing side and slower than it on the incoming one, typically via chains or belts and slipping clutches, particularly of the friction type. The design ensures that the rope is properly wound inor paid out, even when unloaded.
|
