Title compds. (I; X,Y = H, Me; R, R1,R2,R3 = H, hydroxyl; n=1,2, 3, 4) were produced with Bacillus cereus. Thus, washed cells of B. cereus NRRL B-8172 were suspended in a small vols. of pH 7, 0.1M phosphate buffer contg. 3% glucose. About 100-125 ml of cell suspension was added to sep. flasks and then 80 mg dl-trans-1-hydroxy-3-(1',1'-dimethylheptyl)-6,6-dimethyl-6,6a,7,8,10,10a-hexahydro-9H-dibenzo(b,d)pyran-9-one (II) dissolved in EtOH was added to each flask. Incubation was continued for 5 days. Yield from II was 17.1 mg trans-3-(1',1'-dimethylheptyl)-6,6a,7,8,10,10a-hexa hydro-1,6',9-trihydroxy-6,6 -dimethyl-9H-dibenzo(b,d)pyran.
