The power transmission mechanism comprises an input shaft coupled via an epicyclic gear train to an output shaft. The mechanism incorporates a hydraulic brake for progressively slowing down the speed of the annulus in the gear train, thus gradually increasing the power transmitted from the input to the output shaft. Typically this can be done by a multi-plate brake, or alternatively a hydraulic pump with a component slid by the rotation of the annulus, and followed by a flow throttle. The output can be taken via a shaft coaxial to the input shaft and on which a spur or bevel gear is mounted. |
