Thus, when the fitting side of the photo reflection mirror 8 of the light transmittable material 3 is immersed in the measured fluid 4, the incident light L from the light emitting diode 2 is incident to the interface 5, a part is incident in the fluid 4 as the refrraction light L2, the remains are the reflection light L2 through reflection and received to the photo-sensitive element 6 at the total reflection on the light reflection mirror 8, and the electric signal corresponding to the amount of light reception formed is fed to the measuring section 7, the value corresponding to the absolute amount of light received is displayed and the refractive index of the fluid 4 is measured.
