<p>PURPOSE:To manufacture an electrode for electroslag remelting and to prevent the ununiformity in the composition of the steel ingot after remelting, by forming internal chill of waste material etc. in a metal which has a composition the same as, or different from, that of the waste material. CONSTITUTION:In manufacture of a consumable electrode for electroslag remelting or vacuum arc remelting, waste material of product, crude material of cast or forged steel, or ordinary steel ingot 11 is placed as a core vertically in a casting mold 12. Then molten metal 14 of a metal, having a composition the same as that of the core, or having a composition for adjusting component, is poured from a ladle 13 through a core hollow 10 when the core 11 has a core hollow 10, or by bottom pouring when the core 11 has no core hollow, hereby internal chill 15 is formed around the core 11. The core 11 and the internal chill 15 are melted simultaneously by using the ingot as a consumable electrode, hence castings of uniform composition for remelting are manufactured, in addition, the production cost of the electrode is reduced remarkably compared with that by conventional method.</p> |
