<p>PURPOSE:To enable control or modulation at high speed of amplification factor of the light amplifier in accordance with a electric field by changing Fabry-Perot resonance frequency of the light amplifier in accordance with applied voltage. CONSTITUTION:An incident light is introduced through a reflecting mirror 3 into a resonator having reflecting mirrors 3, 4, amplified by the resonator, and emitted through the reflecting mirror 4. A laser medium 1 is pumped less than laser oscillation threshold value. In case that the phase shift amount phi=0 of the case that light is reciprocated in the resolator once back and forth is that the Fabry-Perot resonance wavelength of the light amplifier coincides with the incident light wavelength to thus obtain a maximum amplification factor. Since the amount phi is varied in accordance with the applied voltage to the electrooptical element 2, the amplification factor can be modulated by the applied electric field. When the entire system is regarded as a modulator, the modulator itself has an internal gain. Accordingly, the insertion loss can be compensated by the internal gain, and net gain can be thus obtained.</p> |
