Drilling tubes 3 are provided with a threaded central bore 13, 14 in coupling fittings 4, 5. An extractor 16 is provided with a complementarily thread elongate member 17 which is engageable in the bores 13 or 14 for recovery of the tubes in the event of them becoming lost under ground during drilling.
