"PAPER COATING COMPOSITION" The upward drift in viscosity which is characteristic of alkali-containing paper coating compositions prepared from alkali-swellable latices can be arrested at any desired viscosity level by including in the composition 0.l-l0 parts by weight per l00 parts by weight of dry solids in the uncompounded alkali-swellable latex, of a poly- C2-C4 alkylene glycol having a weight average molecular weight of l00 - 5,000. Polyethylene and polypropylene glycols having molecular weights of about l,200 are shown to produce excellent results.
