The aerial system for a vehicle radio receiver uses a socket into which can be inserted an active or passive aerial. The input to the first stage of the receiver is controlled by a switch which permits one of two matching networks to supply the receiver, depending on the type of aerial. This switch is automatically operated by insertion of the aerial in the socket, being incorporated in the socket. The matching network for the passive aerial includes an amplifier stage corresponding to the amplifier for the active aerial. The matching network for the active aerial has a line through it, connected to the aerial socket.
