The burner has combustion of reactants controlled to reduce pollutant emission. An oxidiser tube(27) communicates with the combustion zone(16) of the forced-draught burner. Radial fuel outlet orifices(32) are arranged to give a total area deduced from given formulae. A deflector disc(31) is fixed to the combustion zone downstream of the fuel orifices. The disc projects radially from the fuel distribution tube(28) into the flow path of the oxidiser. The disc(31) has an area of 20 - 55 % of that of the annular passage between fuel distribution and oxidiser tubes.
