The anode material is pref. Al, Mg, Zn, Mn, or their alloys, and pref. contain alloying metals providing protection against oxidn. of the anodes, esp. Hg, Cd, Ga, and similar metals. The anode pref. has a steel core for making good electric contact with the exhaust system. The anodes are pref. located where max. condensn. occurs in the silencer, i.e. wher max. internal corrosion occurs. An inexpensive but efficient method for preventing corrosion over long periods, esp. where the corrosion is due to the condensn. of the corrosive exhaust gases. |
