The winding conductor (1) is fed from a main supply coil and passes over a guiding roller, then through a pair of rollers (13) and is finally wound on a core (14). The roller train or the core (14) can be moved to and fro until the core has the required number of turns. The desired tension in the winding can be obtained by braking the roller pair (13), and for carrying out the offset in the conductor (1) the offset cheeks (10 and 11) are attached to the guiding roller, and these move together with this roller, so that the offset function is not interrupted during winding operations. This method of winding enables the available space on the winding core to be more efficiently used, by offsetting the conductor in a Z-shaped manner.
