The rotary beam signal lamp mounted on a maintenance vehicle, particularly a vehicle used for road repairs etc., has its beam directed upwardly instead of horizontally as in the more conventional manner. This is intended to give good visibility over a greater distance. The beam can be continuous or rotated to give a flashing effect, and can consist of one or more beams sloping outwards at an acute angle to the vertical axis about which it may be rotated. A single beam pointing vertically upwards may be strengthened by other beams acting within the limiting zone. The lamp may be mounted on a base secured by a magnetic or pneumatic system incorporating the beam control system.
